Do you think that grabbing the edge of the stage when your back is turned will make a retuen to the game? I thought it was one of the best things that they added in brawl since I absolutely hated that it wasn't in melee.

I think it will be added to the game again, but so far we have no in-depth details of the game's mechanics. Might as well wait and see :)

I found it odd that I didn't spot it in any gameplay footage, I kinda liked it but it's not really a game breaker if it's gone, so long as characters can still grab behind them during their Up Special attack.

Ok, so the reason I care is the fact that it can be hard to set yourself up like that. If you happen to get too close to a particular stage then you could end up right under it. From the stages I've seen so far that could happen wit quite a few of them.

It of course is not a deal breaker for me either but it will be a great nuisance.

I can understand where you're coming from though. it can be a nuisance. even when peach is using her recovery, if shes facing backwards, she cant grab the ledge (even though the game should allow it), but others can grab it just fine facing backwards during their recovery. I think peach's recovery is the only one that breaks that rule.

I like the feature too, personally. It did remove a bit of utility from Mario's cape, but I don't think that removing it just to buff his edgeguarding would make sense.

Somebody on this forum posted a thread on the Wii U version of this game. On this thread it was two experienced players breaking down all the pics so far as well as all the gameplay footage. It was nearly an hour long. I can't remember who posted it, but somebody here did. On the video, they noticed a gameplay element where mario should have grabbed the stage (if it was brawl), but he didn't. Because of it, they concluded it won't return. Of course they could always change things over time.

If anyone knows the link to the video that Toph_87 is talking about, can you post it? I am having trouble finding it.

As a Pit mainer, it didn't really matter since I could easily turn around mid Up B, but I still hope it comes back. I don't like the idea of not being able to grab a ledge because of Mario's cape. Also, I believe Pit's Up B is going to be different in the next smash, and by the way it looks, I don't think he will be able to turn mid Up B. I think Sakurai would want to go with the most popular between the two, so it might depend on what people prefer. But seriously, I don't know a single person that wants reverse ledge grab to not be in it.

If it's like Project M where the exact end of the move is where you can grab backwards, I'd be for it.

It really isn't that big of a deal if it comes back or not n all honesty. At the least it is just convience and at the most it makes edge-guarding and recovery easier to a certain extent. All characters as it is are able to use some kind of move that will allow them to turn around, but due to reverse ledge-grab this startegy is pretty null and void. And also reverse ledge grab allows characters to fall off the ledge and catch it when they fall, this makes the strategy of edge-guarding far easier to implement. So in a way it can be argues the reverse ledge grabbing takes away a strategic aspect of the game but in return adds some convience. Personally I would be happy with either but there will be people that will not want it to return as there are people who want it to return.

If it didn't exist in Brawl, Pit and Mario would be higher tiers than they are now

Umm, are you talking about brawl? Because she CAN grab the ledge backwards if you go into downward parasol ("fast fall") animation when near the edge. Like wut...

I think he means when she is rising during the UpB and not facing the ledge, she won't grab it. When she is in her parasol falling state and not facing the ledge, she will grab it

Plenty of up bs can't backwards ledge grab in brawl during startup, it's your own fault if you try and recover that low with peach and turn the other way anyways...

My opinion - I hope it doesn't return BUT there's a way to turn oneself around during up+b's very start OR very end - then you could do up+bs the wrong way and easily reverse it as it ends (or in Kirby/Ike's/Dedede, etc.'s case reverse it at the apex of the attack). I'd also hope the very end of up+b's and certain up+b's throughout the attack (Ike, Kirby, etc. come to mind) can grab it even not reversed (like Link/Falcon in Melee). I think this would be a good middle ground - you get multiple shots to be aimed at the ledge, but if Mario capes you, good luck with that [and caping Kirby/Ike/etc. gives them a small boost away from the edge to be more effective against those always grabs) (I think the cape should have more use than it does).

I also wouldn't mind some easy way to force a turn-around during a jump or force no turn-arounds during a jump (for like Falco, not just Jigglypuff and multi-jumpers) to make grabbing the ledge while backwards without up+b easier, but I don't know how they'd implement that.

I don't mind it returning. It gives people with worst recoveries a better chance I guess. But I don't want that ridiculous grab reach returning.

ya, im talking about brawl.
any other character can still grab the ledge facing away from the stage after their recovery. sure I could fast fall with peach, but that seems like a poor work-around to me. personally, if I were making a game like smash bros, I wouldn't force players to fast fall towards the place they're trying to avoid.
