I haven't played in a while and the game doesn't just feel the same anymore.
It might be because I have nobody to play with but I just don't have the motivation or the drive that I used to have.

I feel that My skill eroded over time and I don't really know how to get that motivation to get back into it.

Anybody else feel the same way after they took a break?

My main's just don't feel as fun as they used to.

I don't think that Smash 4 is anywhere near as fun to play alone as previous games in the series. I poured hours into Brawl's single player modes, but haven't even beaten Classic with every character on the Wii U.

Smash 4 is very much a local multiplayer game, in my opinion. I still have fun alone, messing around with screenshots and experimenting with customs, but with so many characters and such a formulaic Classic and All-Star mode, it's hard to keep interesting.

Play some online For Fun matches, and you'll get back into it - or challenge people on this very site.

Try switching it up and playing a new character or two. Also, playing against others is a must for this game given the skimpy solo modes - I'm having a decent amount of fun grinding out custom stuff at the moment, but would lose interest long term if I didn't have the option of online or local multiplayer.

Another thing that helps me get back into the swing of the game after taking a bit of a break (which I do fairly regularly) is to watch vids/streams of high level play. Gives me something to aspire to or even just to practice.

Idk . I Might try using a new main. I used to play friendlies online a lot so that was a way for me to practice.

I'll try to see if I could get back into the swing of things.

No. I was playing mostly world of warcraft and then had other factors in my life that didn't necessarily allow me to play anything
What I was going to mention was that, if you were playing other Smash games, you might have gotten accustomed to how certain characters work in certain games. Like for me, if I play a bunch of Smash 4, then go right back into Melee, it's a bit jarring for me and I have to go through a phase where I have to relearn the game. So for periods of time I generally stick to one of the games to make it easier on me.

Honestly to circumvent your initial problem, try some For Fun online, I find it's a fun way to unwind while also sparking passion.

SSB4 got a great roster but...

The stage designs were mostly annoying or obtrusive... enough with transforming stages and traveling stages and zoomed out Ridley-sized stages.

The stadium mini-games are still fun but the classic mode, all-star mode, and events aren't fun anymore. Classic and All-Star now feel like chores when you have 50 characters... and the tasks in the events aren't fun.

At this point, I'd rather they get rid of Classic and Events... and just concentrate on improving multiplayer mode (smash, 8-player smash, special smash, Smash Run, a mode where we play as several characters) and adding more stadium mini-games like break the crystals, enemy teams, board the platforms, boss battles, race/climb to the finish, break the targets, crazy orders, trophy rush, and all-star... and we get trophies and custom parts by playing stadium mini-games.

I'd rather they get rid of challenges... those challenges are too sadistic... and just make a new achievement system where you earn Miiverse stamps (replacing stats and milestones) by clearing reasonable but not tedious challenges.
