Hey, does everyone remember in Melee those sounds that characters made when they were launched after they were hit?

They made a sound for a light launch, a heavy launch, and another for a heavy launch. It often sounded quite painful, and was pretty much an audio cue for what looked to be a KO.

Well, they were removed in Brawl, even though the sounds files were still present on disc.

Well, these were the same sounds that the Project M crew restored in their mod of the game.

Anyway, it seems the sounds are returning. I had decided to take another look at Rosalina's reveal trailer. As I was watching it again, while looking for details I might've missed, I heard something.

At that moment in the trailer, you can clearly hear Mario & Luigi yell out in pain upon being launched.

It may not be a big deal, but I found it interesting enough to talk about.

Also, note that no other characters make the noises, possibly because the voices for the other characters have not yet been completed. (The most notable are Samus, Pit, and DK, whose voices may be changing in this game)

Did you guys like the pain sounds at all? It probably helps the sensation of "Feeling Strong" that Sakurai wants to implement into this game, so maybe that's why they're returning.

Pain sounds were mad hype.

I'd love to see this return.

Eh, why not? I'm all for detail.

They are satisfying to hear when you K.O. an opponent, or funny when you get knocked out yourself; I hope these come back.

Oooh, yes! I always felt that Melee's Kill moves had more oomph because of a character's hurt clip playing, and there was nothing more satisfying/terrifying to be hearing that noise at the high point of a match. I'd love to see these again, i hope they're hear to stay!

I LOVED that sounds and I hope they return.

I really liked one of the screams of Pikachu.

Bring it back!

Project M's KOs were satisfying almost entirely because of this!

If that was satisfying, then it's clear to me that Sakurai has truly joined the sport of One-Upsmanship.

First, when a powerful and lethal hit lands, the strike sparks with chaotic red and black lightning:

Then the character soars with a blazing trail flaring off of them like a kite tail:

And whilst they're rocketing into the stratosphere, they'll be yelling in pain as they go.

The level of satisfaction will likely exceed my capability of handling it. Over-satisfaction Guaranteed!

It'd be awesome, as long as they do something about Fox's voice. His scream scared me pretty bad made me feel strong and cool as a child.

I want them to come back, but it's funny and kinda twisted how we are demanding to hear their cries of pain :D

I would definitely support replacing hurt sounds. If a furious brawl is what Sakurai's going for, it only makes sense.

You've got to consider that the characters are being dealt incredibly painful, powerful blows at every turn whether they vocalize about it or not. That's the twisted part, but I don't mind and I don't think anyone else does either.

I totally forgot about these until you mentioned it. It was a nice touch. I remember samus and jigglypuff the most.

Samus just made like this odd noise. I can't even explain it really.

This... so much. It made the kills feel extra gratifying just a tad bit.

Imagine Lucas with that. Those kind of noises plus his "NOOO!!!!" in Project M are soooooooo hype!!!!

As long as Mega Man gets this, I'll be happy.
...it's in the Mega Man reveal trailer bro. ;)
Mario just needs all of his Melee sounds back. Dead serious.
Eh, I mean I love the 8-bit retro sounds more than any Mario sounds before then, but I would like to see his voice be more like it was in Melee.

I'd like it back, though it's going to feel a whole lot more empty without Fox and Falco's Melee voices. Seriously, 12 years later and I still crack up whenever Fox and Falco get kicked to hell, it sounds so damn painful and comical.

I loved these sounds so much, not to mention how important they are to give the cue of the target being "ripe" for KO. Or just hearing them fly off after nasty attack.

But yeah, it appears they actually used those previous sounds from Brawl even! I think we get new voice clips but it never hurts to use temporary stock voices from last installments.

Yes, character launch sounds should definitely return. Project M did such a good job with them too. Such dramatic audio ques to tell the player to step it the **** up!

It'll be just like in Melee. Hurtling back your opponent with a feel swoop, catapulting them to rocket speed as they descend towards the edge where naught exists. You hear there desperate cries for help, being the only animalistic thing they can utter so their distress may bound in bloodcurdling echoes! All while you smirk of schadenfreude, silently indulging in their last moments of life expended at your hands!

Also, we need more Orgasmic Combat SFX for the ladies! :troll:

I hope Charles Martinet do some new voice clips for SSB4, something more high pitched, like Melee, or something intermediate like Mario Galaxy, because Brawl Mario sounds plain bad.
