Return Certain Characters Back to Brawl Physics?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering, is there any way to revert a single character in Project M back to their Brawl moveset/physics? An acquaintance of mine is a Fox main, and he really just cannot get into PM Fox, as the inputs are a bit too technical and strict for him.

He says that he'd probably perform much better if he could use regular Brawl Fox as he's already familiar with him (although I wonder if it'd just make things even worse for him in an environment with L-cancelling, Wavedashing, etc.)

Anyways, if there is a way, could you guys provide a little help? I'm a bit new to the modding scene. At best, I'm familiar with adding custom skins on characters and such. Would the method to achieve what I'm asking be similar, perhaps?

Thanks in advance!

A program like Project SmashAttacks is required to edit the physics and attributes of a character. A character's FitCharacter.pac holds all the attributes, so you'd want to edit P:M Fox's FitFox.pac, and change the attributes to match Brawl Fox's attributes.

Project SmashAttacks huh? I'll look into it.

Although I did try deleting FitFox.pac as well as the character movement file in the PM Folder in hopes that it would just load Fox straight from the Brawl Disc.

I was only half successful. All his Brawl Moves returned, but his Air Dodge was still like PM's, so he retained both Wave Dashing and L-Cancelling (which I would consider a good thing for my friend, if he'd just take the time to learn it.) Dash Dancing was also reverted to Brawl Physics. However, Fox was still unable to grab the ledge with his back.

Would Project SmashAttacks allow me to give back Fox's ability to use the Brawl Air Dodge as well as the ability to grab the ledge with his back?

Don't quote me on this, but I think the Melee air dodge is coded into Project M, as it's a universal feature. And I'm not so sure about reverse ledge grabbing, that could be coded in as well. Deleting some code would most like fix those, but at that point it's a matter of finding the codes.
Funnily enough, I was looking for Project M PSAs with Brawl physics, there are a handful that can be downloaded, but I don't recall seeing a Fox one.

Yeah, those were my suspicions as well, seeing as how even without the PM movement codes for Fox, he still lacks reverse ledge grabbing while keeping the Melee air dodge. L-Cancelling is probably also universal.

Even if I could somehow locate the code and manipulate it, it might just end up changing it for every character. Thanks for the insight, btw.

Well, since I'm definitely not code-savvy as of yet, could you please let me know where you found those particular PSAs you mentioned? Probably on Brawl Vault, perhaps?

All global physics are coded into the project M general code file RBSEsomthing.gct

it will be easier to tell your mate to suck it up and get used to the new fox =p

Sure thang, meng.
Both KingJigglyPuff and Angel_save on BrawlVault made Project M movesets that are compatible with Brawl. Bear in mind, though, that the physics are a mix between P:M and Brawl, so it's as close as you can get. Search BrawlVault for those users.
Also, Angel_save's PSAs have some slight bugs, whereas KJP's do not.

Yeah, tried that route already...I think it might already be too late. He's come to hate the Project M Physics for feeling 'too stiff'. Although I think a part of that might be my fault.

Says he'd rather stick to Sm4sh from now on.

Thanks a lot, my friend. Just looked through KJP's stuff, it's actually rather amazing stuff. I'll be looking up Angel_save's in a bit too.

it's all in his mind, PM is smoother than a fresh shave.
just keep playing it.
dont force it on him though, if he gets sick of it stop for a bit and play the other game.
maybe suggest giving other characters a try?

Totally agree there.

It's just, we both entered into Project M at around the same time, after practicing our basic ATs in Melee. It was fine at first, but it quickly became noticeable that I had latched onto ATs more closely than he did, and it started to show in our matches.

And then Sm4sh came out, and that was the game to play, and I guess he'd just gotten so used to that version of Fox, that now he attempts to play PM Fox like Sm4sh Fox, almost completely ignoring the ATs he'd practiced before.

I suggested playing other characters, and he did, switching between Wolf and Lucario and such, but he's pretty adamant on being a 'Fox First' type of guy.

Guess I'll just let him stick with Sm4sh and attempt to find a different sparring partner.
