retractable weapons

I was just eating breakfast and was thinking how interesting it would be if everyone had 2 fighting stances... like how zelda can change to sheik and how it is speculated that samus can take her suit off.

What if link, marth, roy could put away their sword and take it out at will... maybe down on the directional pad. Seems like a fun idea to me... though I guess it wouldn't be practical.
