Removing Stage Textures

I want to make Skyloft not lag on Dolphin. How can I remove textures (or can I?) from the stage so that it's less laggy? Maybe make the background static sky and clouds with nothing else? Is it even the background that makes it lag? Help would be appreciated.

I mean I want to keep the level the same and learn how to do it myself. I was thinking if it would be possible to make the background the same sky with clouds but remove all the background textures and make it static in hopes of reducing lag.

You can try something else first... I'll give you this tutorial made by a PMBR member named Eternal Yoshi.

Save a Backup of the stage.

For stages, there's a more efficient method.
Let's use my VR stage.

We can simply go to the mdl0 directly and open up the Object section. Then CTRL + P or Right Click > Optimize to bring this up.

Then press OK. Repeat for all the objects. Keep in mind that the facepoint count doesn't update until you save and close.

This optimizer doesn't affect node count. Stages don't really have a lot of node counts so they aren't really an issue.

Do that, and you'll have a less laggy Stage. Hopefully.

I'll give it a shot thanks!
What is the catch with optimizing it? Reducing quality?

While I still have you, if this doesn't work what else can I do? I tried doing Smashville and there were a ton of things with high counts that couldn't be optimized.

For most stages, it shouldn't have any noticeable effect.

Original Brawl models are already optimized, I don't think you can optimize them further. I think the only way you can get around it is to start deleting stuff (or use a different stage texture entirely).

I just did a few tests and I could only get about 30 KB less (2.58 down to to 2.55 MB) after optimizing the MDL0's for Skyloft.

Unless you just revert the background and textures back to the original "Temple: M" from back in 2.0/2.1, you're out of luck.

So I did some editing and got this

Really happy with the result, and the file size is 4x smaller and wayyy faster!
