I thought I'd just remind everyone that, aside from a handful of exclusive stages, everything that makes the Wii U version of Super Smash Brothers different to its handheld sibling is still an utter mystery to the public. We don't know how its Classic Mode will work. We don't know anything about its All Star Mode, or its unlockable stages, or its menus. We don't even know for certain when it's coming out! Isn't that bizarre? SSB3D has been explored all but exhaustively, and yet SSB Wii U is still a complete enigma. Quite exciting, isn't it? The speculation period isn't over yet!

I think people only care about speculating about characters which really only comes off as grasping at straws when they talk about the wii u version now since it isn't anywhere near confirmed that there is DLC nor linking unlocks.

Thanks for the tip, anyway. o.o

I'm really not sure if it could be described as "grasping straws" at this point. We have roughly a 998 MB of data in limbo for SS3B at the moment, which seems to indicate that a unholy amount of content might be missing (To further clarify, that's almost half of the entire game's data if I'm not mistaken). With this much missing content, anything is game to consider, especially character opportunities (since they would by far be the single most selling point of this series, and would also add the much needed incentive for wanting a Wii U).

My opinion, but I'll be honest: I wouldn't touch the Wii U version of SSB if it was exactly the same as the 3DS variant, and only offered extra stages/game modes as unlocked content. I'd rather have a portable SSB than a higher graphic quality SSB with bells and whistles, because when the day is done characters honestly define this game (Let alone portability is absolutely amazing). It would be the best move Nintendo could make, having characters that can be unlocked and unique to both platforms. The Wii U needs more units sold, and SSB with additional characters could potentially bring more game play and tech.

The one thing I find truly bizarre is why the Wii U version is released later than the 3DS version. From a sales perspective, no sense whatsoever, and the sales of units has been lost because the 3DS is more prevalent. I honestly wonder what Nintendo does have up their sleeve to try and make me consider getting SSB for the Wii U, let alone a Wii U in itself!

998 MB doesn't guarantee characters though. It gives a hell of a lot of promise, but it doesn't guarantee anything.

My opinion is the opposite. If the wii u version was the same as 3DS, i would get wii u version. I'm guessing from this post that you don't own a wii u and don't understand how portable of a console it is. I've seen people plug their wii u's into airport common areas to play on their gamepads during layover. No battery issues, better utility outside of using the system in general due to TV control and superior internet browser, SUPERIOR CONTROL OPTIONS, as well as a not too different price point.

There are at least 5 other AAA games worth getting the wii u for that are either coming out in the next 8 months or out right now.

Controlling characters on the 3DS is awkward and difficult to say the least, and as you said, there's at least 2x the content on the wii u. Control won't improve until you buy the new 3DS with the control stick which isn't coming out until spring, so if you're intending to play competitively or even casually with friends since 3DS REQUIRES at least 1 other 3DS and at least 1 other full copy of the game, this is literally all the reason you need to get the wii u version.
