Hi guys,

New to the boards and to smash bros series.

Finally had SSBB arrive in the post yesterday and gave it a quick blast, watched loads of videos on youtube of both brawl and melee whilst waiting the months for the game to come out.

My problem is i cant recover when i fall off of a ledge. I watch these games and people seem to run off of the ledge then just zip on back up to grab it, or get knocked like 2000 miles away and somehow keep mid air jumping to get back to it.

If i fall off of a ledge i am lucky to get ONE jump and it never has any height so i can never recover and grab the ledge again and am wondering if there is a certain technique to it?

Any help appreciate please, on how to recover when falling off a ledge, whats the best sequence of moves to try.

Thanks :)

which character are you using? or is it a general problem?

well, one obvious thing would be to hold the control stick in the direction you want to jump in, then use your jumps and then use your up-b
Well i was zelda/sheik but its a general problem with any character. Rarely seem to actually get a jump out, whereas when i watch these movies people seem to walk off the edge, fall double the distance i do but somehow just blitz back up to the side lol. If i go off of the ledge its game over for me.

I try to do the jumps but often it doesnt seem to jump is all, not meant to press shield or anything like that?

lol, when you get off the ledge try to jump twice.. and then press UP+B...every one has a recovery, mostly UP+B.
And to jump press up, no sheild, just up...

Also, you can use what is called Directional Influence, or DI for short. When using DI, you push your control stick in the opposite direction of the way you are going and your character will slowly start to go in that direction. IE, if you are knocked off the right side of the stage, hold left. Good luck and welcome to super smash bros :)

Are you using your recovery move right? If you need to know how to use Zelda/Sheik check out the forum dedicated to them in the Brawl Character Discussion room. When you fall off an edge, jump then press the control stick upward while holding down B. That's your characters "recovery move" Most every character has one.

To recover, your upB + direction on Zelda or Sheik will get you most.
If you really have that much trouble recovering, use Peach, Pit, Meta Knight etc. anyone with gliding/multiple mid-air jumps.

Many characters have more than one mid-air jump, but most only have one. Kirby has four, Charizard has two, Pit has three, etc. Zelda and Shiek both only have one mid-air jump. If you press the B button while holding the control stick upwards, your character will use their recovery special. The are many different kinds of recovery specials. Some of them, you just have to press UpB and they will gain upward momentum, like Link's and Mario's. Some have special properties like Zelda's makes her dissapear, then reappear whichever direction you held the control stick. Lucas's shoots out a small blue ball. You have to move the control stick to control the ball and hit Lucas with it. Wherever it hits him, he will gain momentum in the opposite direction. i.e. If it hits the top of his head, he will shoot straight down, if it hits the middle of his feet, he will shoot straight up. You have to play with different characters and find out how to recover the best way possible with them.

P.S. Welcome to smash and smashboards.com It's a great site.
