So, I happily found my 10 or so year old cube in my attic the other day. Ecstatic, I bought cables for it, which arrived yesterday, and hurriedly tried it out. To my delight, it turned on, went to the main menu, all that jazz. I was quite happy! Recently, a friend let me borrow her copy of melee, and I just got to try it out. The disc itself is lightly scratched(Almost all really shallow cosmetic scratches around the edges) and I don't see why it wouldn't work. However, when I pop it in the cube, it gets me to the "Press start" screen, and then dies after I do so. I hear my cube almost struggle to spin the disc, and then stop once I hit start. Do I need to clean my cube(It's QUITE dusty in there)? My lens?

Any and all help is appreciated :)

It's in your best interests to eliminate dust within the cube (with air duster if possible) and lightly clean the disc and see how it works. Otherwise, cleaning your gamecube's lens can help solve certain disc reading errors if nothing else (see 1.1 in this thread)

If you are having any further problems or questions, please feel free to search or post in our Official Technical Issues Q&A thread. All topics relating to technical issues are supposed to be posted in that thread, so I will be locking this thread. I hope you manage to solve the problems you are having. :)
