You both roll too much. That stage's boundaries are too far out. I don't really see either of you thinking; it mostly looks like you're playing on instinct. The opponent is less the character being played and more the person sitting next to you.

So, go back to regular FD for the closer boundaries, and tone down the rolling I can understand, I kept trying to get him in the air and juggle him out of the stage, but yeah other then that we were mostly going on instinct as you said.

Not really sure how to go against instinct and play against the player and not the character. I assume the solution would be to figure out how the opponent likes to play, and try to predict what they are most likely to do so I can counter it. Is that right?

....Great....
That's really not helpful and its not their fault if they have a small to non-existent smash scene.

What you guys can do is simply learn a lot of the theory craft and MU knowledge from your characters respective boards and practice it on each other, friends and dare I say lv9s. I honestly found practicing against lv9 cpus quite helpful in making me a better player. The practice just gives you a solid foundation of smash e.g. playing the defensive (rolling, shielding, etc), comboing moving targets and applying advanced techniques into an in game situation.

This is all that can really help, and what I've done to get better. I have the same problem as you guys but I've at least entered one tourny haha.

Anyway hope this post has actually helped.
