So I found a really small but interesting little thing while messing around with the demo.
If you go into Group mode and pick Random, a random character + costume is actually picked immediately and no one else can then pick that character/color combination. So what this means is when you're playing vs someone who picks Random, if you go through all the characters/colors and you find out that there is a specific color of a character that you cannot pick for some reason, then you'll immediately know who your opponent's "Random" character is, even before the game starts.
I tried this in solo mode and the same thing does not happen. None of the characters or costumes will be unavailable if someone else is set to Random.
I'm assuming this happens because in wireless matches players can enter the game from the CSS at different times, so the game has to roll randoms right away to prevent conflicts. But for offline play the game starts at the same time for everyone so all randoms can be rolled at the same time after everything else has been picked.
