Really could not think of a name for this thread.

In todays society "especially in America" things like this happens. Yea it's not like it was before with the "whites only bathrooms" "minorities eat over there" or whatever but it still goes on. Simple things like this....im black so here are examples from true life experiences.

Ex1: Just the other day i walk into a gas station to use the ATM. As i walk in there was a police officer pulling away in his car. He then pulls back in and come inside to ask me "hey is your name fred? can i see some I.D" I tell him that is not my name and show him then he leaves...im like wtf?

Ex2: Next day same gas station (lol) i go in to get some snacks. Once again there were cops sitting outside in the car. Soon as go in they come in and is just sitting there staring at me.

Ex3: I go get a application for a job one day. I ask for 2 of them. I told them one for me and one for a friend. Purposely, me and my friend filled them out to be basically exactly the same except one said "African American" and the other said "Caucasian". We both had jobs so we did for "experimenting"
Do you know a few days later he got the call for the job? They said they can only take one. Of course he didnt take the job but it was really funny.

Basically my question to everyone is..what do you think of racial profiling and does it "pay off" to be a "non-minority" these days?

Racial profiling is still here, but it works on more discreet grounds than it did a back in the "whites only" days.

Your third example was just baiting, you presented a question with two choices. Either way they choose they could be painted racist. Either they chose the Caucasian over the African American, or they chose the African American over the Caucasian. My grandpa owns the local True Value hardware store, and from experience I know that a lot more is looked into in an application than just the answers put down. If you live in a smaller community, he might know more about you two than what you answered on the application. One of you might have better handwriting than the other. Just because you both didn't obtain the single opening, doesn't mean the employer was being racist.

I don't mean to wail too hard on your third example, but the problem is that many people try to set up a situation where the only differing factor is race, then try to label the person who makes the decision as racist.

Why did you two decide to waste the businesse's time to conduct this "experiment". They probably have many other things to take care of than read through fake applications.

The profiling works both ways too. Two years ago I was applying for college scholerships, and I only had a 2.8 gpa. Using 2.5+ as my limit, the scholarships that came up were only applicable to:

1. Native Americans
2. African Americans
3. Women

For a Caucasian to get any scholarships, you had to have a 3.5 to a 4.0gpa. I actually don't have much of a problem with this because of where the money comes from. The scholarships are given by different foundations, so of course the foundations for African Americans are only giving out money to African Americans. The problem happens when the other side shows up. If a foundation started up to help only Caucasians, they would be viewed upon like the KKK. It isn't hard to see the news pouncing on a foundation that offers a million dollars in scholarships, but saying they don't want it to go to any race besides Caucasian.

My 3rd example was more for the question i asked "does it pay off to be a non minority"

Not saying they are racist. You have some valid points though.
