OK, that might sound like an aggressive title... sorry!

One thing I'm getting kind of sick of right now is people saying that 'so-so can't get in Smash Bros' for whatever reason. It's already established that Sakurai can do whatever the hell he wants with his game. It's never impossible for a character to be included in Smash Bros. Sure, it's alright stating how likely it is for a character to get in Smash Bros, but I don't really like it when someone says it's impossible for a character to make it in. Whoever said it was impossible? If Team Fortress 2 can crossover into a Sonic game, and the Punisher can team up with Archie, then why do people think it's impossible for Bayonetta to get in the game? She doesn't even have to be playable or anything, yet people think it's absolutely impossible for her to make it in. What?

I get it, Sakurai may have said before that only video game characters can make it in, but he's broken that rule by including ROB, a gaming peripheral that has never really appeared in a game outside of the instruction manuals.

Personally, I'm a bit of a dreamer. I'm always wondering what kind of crazy unexpected crossovers will happen in the future. But I feel at the moment that the anticipation of Smash Bros 4 is being dampened by haters and cynical fudge-beggas who only want Nintendo characters that make absolute and total sense and no exceptions. I think these people should probably lighten up a little bit.

Yeah, all the pessimism really is annoying. All I ever hear for "still potential" newcomers are Ridley and K Rool. What about the hundreds of unrepresented series? HUH?!

I guess I am slightly annoyed by all the "Takamaru will be the retro" or "Ridley and K. Rool will be in," for all we know that might not be the case. Takamaru may not be the retro, it might be Prince Sable or Duck Hunt Dog. Ridley and K. Rool might become bosses. Sakurai is probably doing his best to give the roster variety it needs. It's not going to all the guys with badass swords (Roy, Shulk, Isaac), that's probably not a realistic case, just look at Wii Fit Trainer. :awesome:

Some people are the analytical type who like to share their thoughts on the probability of x character making the cut. You big dreamers need them to have an interesting discussion, and vice versa.

the reason i think bayonetta has an extremely low chance of making it is because the head of platinum games said he didn't want his characters in smash bros... you know something like that, and i can't link to proof of legitimacy because i have completely forgotten due to my ADD

ROB was also in kirby's dreamland 3

BUT I also argue that ROB was a CHARACTER in Gyromite, the creation of Prof Hector.

You might not SEE him in game, but he is there is story

It's understandable that it's frustrating, but the reality is that there are restrictions that characters have to pass through before they can successfully become a playable character in Smash Bros.

In the case of non-Nintendo characters, Sakurai has gone ahead and said that they can be harder to include than even making the rest of the game, and that was just in reference to Snake and Sonic. Yes, Sega might be able to make a little TF2 reference (haven't really heard of it though), but they are also on Steam, and Sega is much more connected to the western audience, not to mention PC gaming. Nintendo simply isn't part of that, and seemingly have no plans to be part of it in the future either, so that comparison doesn't really work.

Another important thing to take notice of is that the majority of Smash characters are chosen because they have a lot of fan requests. 13 out of the 16 characters in Brawl were widely requested by fans, the only exceptions being Zero Suit Samus, Snake and R.O.B (could also count Squirtle and Ivysaur in there, but they are glued together with Charizard). So yeah, oddball characters can of course happen, we've just seen it with Wii Fit Trainer too, but they are nothing to hold your breath for. There's a reason the majority of us stick to the popular characters.

I know this kind of contradicts the point of this thread, but I'm just explaining where we're coming from with our point of views.

Honestly as long as the character is from Nintendo, I'm fine with any and all suggestions. You wanna talk Nintendogs? At least it's Nintendo based!

I do agree that the general Smashboards consensus Elite Four, Mewtwo and Takamaru is the most boring outcome for potential newcomers possible however. The fact that we'd have managed to guess six newcomers with no surprise additions would be pretty disappointing should they be the only ones in. I want at least one more big surprise character that few people saw coming first.

We've already gotten Wii Fit Trainer. I think it depends on how many newcomers we get, if we only get like 8 then I'd hate having 2 of those precious spots taken by oddball characters just for the initial surprise factor. I feel that there are still plenty of important characters to add, and I'd rather have a character that people have wanted than a character that people haven't requested but is a shock character. Even then the general public aren't into Nintendo as much as we are, so there'd still be quite an amount of people who wouldn't know who Takamaru, Palutena or K. Rool is, so even if they are obvious to us they may not be to a lot of other people.

Sorry, I think I didn't explain myself well here.

When I said a surprise character it was less Wii Fit Trainer or Dr. Lobe and more along the lines of Bandanna Dee, Bowser Jr or Paper Mario, Robin/Avatar or Samurai Goroh, AKA fairly important individuals in their respective series rather than "so random and obscure!" characters. More characters that make the players go "Oh, cool! I know this guy/girl, they're a pretty nice addition!" is what I'm hoping for, rather than something like...I dunno...Flipnote Frog or Reggie.

Basically characters with decent fanbases that are supported but are far from considered shoo-ins. I want some of the Smashboards Elite roster selection to make it, as they're pretty important but if that's ALL we get it'd be a bit disappointing that 95% of Smashboards predicted the roster correctly a week after E3.

Ah, now I follow better. Yeah, I'd like one of those to make it in there too, the guys who fall into the middle tier. I definitely agree on that.

I'd like to see Anna or Tiki as one of the middle tier characters being revealed.

I've already stated that I don't mind sorting out characters based on how likely they are. But whoever said it was impossible for character x or y to get in? Sakurai doesn't really care about what makes sense, but whenever he does make a character into Smash, they always have cool movesets. If I had the chance to become head of Nintendo, a pretty damn big company with plenty of allies, then I would just include as many characters from as many companies as I could get.

But seriously, who would have ever thought that Marvel and Capcom would crossover. These two companies had nothing in common, and only knew of each other because Marvel asked Capcom to make an X-Men game. And now we have the VS series, one of the greatest crossover franchises of all time. It's as simple as that.

I also understand that people may not want too many 'oddball' or unexpected characters. That's fine, but if Sakurai reveals a bunch of characters you don't like, then you've just got to deal with it and move on.

But what I find incredibly funny is that when people go around making boring and predictable suggestions over and over again, Sakurai's just gonna include more oddball characters.

If they'd let me of course. :awesome:

But while it may sound impossible at the moment that Microsoft and Sony could team up and make a crossover game together, about 20 years in the future it will become another case of Mario and Sonic and people would be wondering what all the fuss was about.

Who knows? Maybe someday in the distant future Smash Bros will encompass all the video games, all the anime, all the fiction ever... but for now, keep your Goku and Sora outta here. (I love DB and KH btw)

I couldn't agree more! Honestly, when it comes to big reveals, especially when Nintendo is concerned, patience is a virtue. We have no idea as to who or what will and will not be in SSB4, because there is currently a lack of information, therefore, while speculating is good to keep up the hype and all of that, making half-cocked assumptions about the game, ("IT'S AS SLOW AS ****ING BRAWL!!!!!," "It's looks soooooo boringggggg," "OMG, this game looks like crap." is only dampening an otherwise exciting game to come.

Some people are just aggressive on a Nintendo character's chances, i'm lucky that I'm willing to accept any character here.
