Its not a phantom hit, it just didnt register!

G&W went from tumble to untumble animation right when you dair'd causing him to avoid the dair right when you did it.

Its pretty much what arcnatural said. Your opponent was probably wiggling so after the first fair he got out of tumble animation which changes where GW is by a little. Just enough so you missed your dair.
