This is something I've been thinking about idly lately; do you consider P:M to be a completely different game in Smash canon, or just a really complicated other shell for Brawl?

Separate game. Brawl hasn't been on my radar ever since it came out.

I would consider a different game in my opinion. It feels completely different than Brawl in terms of gameplay, and more fun to me.
I just can't wait Project M Subspace Emissary :3

Me, I also consider it separate, even though there's still an unmistakeable "ghost of something else" feel to it right now. Hopefully that will go away in future updates.

I think it freezes due to the code added for the physics, costumes and extra characters being incompatible with the way SSE works.

Squirtle, Charizard and Ivysaur I believe. Something to do with how the Pokemon Trainer is in the SSE even though they are separated from him otherwise. Events that have the Pokemon Trainer in them cause freezes too.

Anyway I think it's probably an "outer shell" as a mod, but I treat it as if it's its own thing.

I guess I'd say separate things. In the same sense that PM is a different game than Melee, it even is than Brawl, despite being a game that launches through Brawl.

That's why I get salty when people talk as if PM needs to be a 1:1 Melee Clone. It's called Project Melee, because it restored Melee's fundamentals, and general gameplay mechanics. Project M has since become it's own agenda, bringing new things to the table, as well as celebrating the greats of the past. (Don't say Brawl did nothing for us. Footstools my *****, footstools.) In that way I think that while it is driven by other installments, it's truly become it's own game.

It's not a so-called "Total Conversion", it's a regular mod, albeit very well developed.

Wiiztec hit the nail on the head so perfectly and accurately, with such a great amount of knowledge and strength, that the floor has now being held in place.

Well, yeah, what Wiiztec said.
Play it differently, despite it being only a few megabytes of changes to Brawl's code, which is about seven gigabytes.
Killabyte has launched a talk about data... hmm.

The game is certainly complete enough. An in-game reminder to tell us to make replay saving work is all I can think of adding at the moment, but the Project M staff continues to add more cool stuff anyway.
All-Star battles? Yess....
The most-complete competive Smash game we have is Project M, now. Characters, competiive stages, competitive modes, all that.

Feels like a new game when you haven't played brawl since the first month of brawl being out, and you load from USB so you dont even see the brawl game. =p

It feels like a whole different game honestly. Even though it is a mod of Brawl, the way it works and the uniqueness of most characters make PM feel like its own entry outright
