Quick question on wavedashing

Can you light press wavedash in Melee? In Melee and Project M on the Dolphin Emulator I can light press wavedash fine in both games, but on the actual Wii or Gamecube console I can't light press wavedash in Melee at all. I think only on dolphin you can configure the settings that allow you to do that? Not sure, I haven't played Melee in a while so just wanted to ask.

I'm not sure if you're asking about the airdodge part or the jump part. You have to fully click the shoulder button down to do the airdodge part of the wave dash. I'm not sure but I don't think it matters if you do a short hop or a full jump for the wave dash, as long as you do the airdodge correctly you should still get it.

I was wondering on the airdodge part. Yeah I have to fully click the trigger buttons, thought for some reason you can light press it like Project M lol.

What do you have L and R set to in the GCPad configuration?
If it's set to the axis then that means the analog trigger is registering as the "hard" button press, which is the only reason I can think of why this would be happening.

Yeah, the Dolphin emu is a bit finicky with shoulder buttons. I'm pretty sure in the button mappings screen you can configure it so that there is a threshold for the trigger within which it counts as lightly pressed and beyond which counts as fully pressed.

I used to play Super Mario Sunshine on Dolphin with an Xbox360 controller and I remember I had to fiddle with that setting for awhile to get the half-pressed and fully-pressed differences to occur at comfortable spots.

yeah the way to fix this is you press down on the L or R button until right before the "click" of the hardpress, THEN you click on the space to set L or R, then you click it fully (should register as button 4 and 5) and then for the analog buttons you click on space to set L-Analog/R-Analog and press down until you reach the click of the hardpress where you stop (these should be registered as Axis Xr-+ and Axis Yr-+)

Ahh I see, thanks man. For some reason I thought you can light press without the click and wavedash in Melee. Project M got me thinking it's a thing since most melee mechanics are in pm, then I did some looking up only to find out it's not a thing at all lol.
