Quick question about Netplay

So I have been playing Netplay recently to get better at melee. I'm brand new to the scene so I'm getting demolished, which I have actually enjoyed haha! I have one question though. So I am OBSESSED with stats, not really sure why, but I love keeping track of everything. When I play netplay, all my data is erased each time I start a new game. Is there a way to play the game where I can save my stats each game? I'm assuming that there is a certain memory card with my rom that saves so I can have all characters and stages, but I don't want that. I can unlock everything on my own, I don't mind if that is what I have to do, but I want to be able to save everything. Anyone know?

Can I tag along on this question? I'd like to see a rating/ladder system that pairs you with people around your skill level. That would be good. :3
