I want to take the back piece off my one controller and put it on my current one because the current one is broken from dropping it. This case the controller will be black and purple. Is it viable in tournaments? Or is no modding allowed for controllers?

It's perfectly fine to do that, lots of players swap shells of two different controllers to make theirs more custom.

Usually, the only thing that is not allowed are controllers with macro (turbo) buttons. Those are almost always banned.

Mixing shells allows for quick identification. Good for spotting your controller and ensuring that no one else accidentally picks it up with their greasy hands.

Doooo it.

I think it's good to have a controller that stands out so you can spot it easier. Plus, it looks cooler among all the other basic ones :)
