Quick Draw Cancelling?

I got the Prima strategy guide at launch, and read Ike's section. A few times it says that you can cancel Ike's Quick Draw, and that would be a good thing to mix up (canceled and non-canceled). The thing is, it says you start a different move in the middle of Ike's accelerating animation. I've tried multiple times, even at 1/4th speed, but I can't do it.

Was the guide wrong on instructing how to do it or am I just not getting something right? :confused:
