I just got melee an hour ago, so far I can wave dash and such but the physics are so weird. I was wondering what the most optimal controls are and if I should transition to c sick for aerials.

In general I'd recommend using Y rather than tap jump and X if you don't have any proclivities toward a set layout yet (though many characters benefit from knowledge of both tap jump and X/Y). You'll also want to be familiar with the C-stick, even if you don't use it for everything.

Most important thing is to make sure you don't grip the controller too tightly. It's bad for the hands and wrists.

The controls are already optimal, aside from tap jump, maybe (Falco benefits heavily from it, utilting/uairing without jumping is a bit difficult). Some short hop by flicking the bottom edge of the X button with their thumbnail. It's truly 100% reliable. But Y is closer to B, but it's more difficult. Do whatever you think you'll do best with. Just keep playing the game to keep getting more comfortable with the physics
