OK. This might sound really dumb but I'm new to all of this and I was wondering what "mindgames" and "wavedashing" and "techs" and stuff like that were. I'm sorry if that sounds really dumb but I have seen a lot of people use those words and would love it if someone would help me out on that.

That's all smash lingo my friend. Wavedashing: An odd Hack/Glitch exploited by the hardcore smash community.
Tech: Just technique for short.
Mindgames: Little tricks to keep an opponent off balance. Like throwing a Falcon Punch towards Mario. After he gets used to flipping you backwards, he'll do it out of instinct. So you throw it backwards, he'll flip you and you'll knock out Mario. Stuff like that.
