Smash 3DS Questions about Online and Offline players?

My friends, as well as myself, have been wondering if when we 'party-up' online (3 of us, that is), if we can play a FFA with each other plus one random player online too?

Also, my brother and sister-in-law are smash fans and wonder if we could all 3 play (in the same room) with one online player in a FFA?

I asked this question in one of the, "Got the game, AMA" threads. I believe the answer was no, to both questions. I'd love to be wrong though.
