Questions about Melee netplay??

Huge question. So I really wanna practice with other people, and well I have a kinda good but definatley not amazing laptop that's running only 2gb of ram atm. I caught wind of melee netplay and heard that it uses the dolphin GameCube emulator. Well.. I"m nearly positive running my melee ISO right off my laptop through the dolphin emulator would be sketchy, let alone playing it online. So I have this small feeling but I'm completely unsure if it would work.. But would an vga connection from my wii or GameCube consoles be able to run off dolphin emulator? And then allow me to go netplay? If so I'd love feed back on what I would need to purchase in terms of some kind of avi to avg connection to wii to computer. I've seen simple ones for any console for the yellow red white chords to vga for like 6 bucks but I heard that connection to the wii would make it black screen for moments of time if I get a low quality chord. I also heard that it works just fine, I have no resources on what's good and what's not but guidance would really help me out on a decision. All in all I'm capable of later on getting another gig of ram since my laptop can only hold 3, and I could purchase up to 50 bucks worth of chords if one hundred percent nessisary. Any help?

Uh. What?

You have to run Dolphin to play netplay on Dolphin. There is no current stable way of playing Melee online with a console.

Alright so there's no way to run vga oon dolphin off my laptop? Or am I making myself sound stupid? Like a better question being, the only way to net play is to emulate an ISO off my compute with dolphin

I don't think you understand how this works. You can in no way use a console to play on Netplay. Netplay is a feature exclusive to Dolphin emulator which emulates local play online. You have to be playing in the emulator to use Dolphin's features. Even if you used "vga cables for your gamecube" you would just be viewing your gamecube on your laptop screen, that would have no connection to Dolphin.

You seem to think RAM = performance which isn't true either. Your system RAM and graphics card and stuff all contribute to performance, but Dolphin relies mostly on the CPU. 2GB of RAM is pretty bad for 2015, I mean it may be enough for Dolphin, but from the low amount of RAM it sounds like you just have an old laptop that probably has a CPU incapable of emulating the game at full speed. But you could always try it for yourself and see.

Tbh if you want to play Netplay you should just build a pc.

alright that answers my question completely. Your right I wasn't fully sure how it worked so I just thought there was a highly convenient connection going on that I could take advantage on ^_^; in terms of using dolphin to emulate I know for sure that work cause this is an elderly computer. Thank you two for the much needed feed back
