Questions about Linux operating systems.

I, a while back got Window Vista and I have been annoyed with it. I really do not have money so I asked my step father what to do, and he mentioned Linux was free. He him self has not used Linux, but he has friends that do, which is why he knows about it. I have to say after learning about some of the pros I am seriously considering going over to Linux, but before I do I wish to know what will I need to adjust to and what are the Cons (I have only heard the pros.) Is there anything additional I will need to learn to run Linux?

Well, the initial setup can be annoying if you need a few obscure drivers, but other than the fact that you have to do some things manually via the terminal, it isn't that hard to adjust.

Try dual-booting first to see if you like it. There's a guide to dual-booting Ubuntu, one of the most user friendly distributions of Linux, stickied within this board.

Alright I called up my techy and I will try it out Wednesday if things go according to plan. I hear there are not as many viruses for Linux what does this mean in terms of my internet security? Also will my USB X box controller work on linux via wine?
