Questions About Controller Interchangeability

I heard some people talking about taking the internals of one kind of controller and putting them into another kind. I was wondering if this actually has any benefits. Right now, I have a black controller that I'm happy with, but I'm just curious to know if this really does anything.

other than the control sticks you'll have to put the stuff inside the controller in another one of the same kind or it won't fit...
benefit depends... you can switch out old sticks with new ones or the L/R triggers of the gamecube controller if they don't work properly... but if you're just talking about putting the stuff inside in a different casing then it's pretty much just about how it looks...
