Questions about close to lagless monitor setups

Hey, so I have a normal CRT setup, but was interested in having a more portable setup that was close to lag free as possible.

For now I have a Asus V228h monitor (obviously the BenQ is better), and I use the Wii2HDMI as a converter. But I hear a lot of talk saying that the Wii2HDMI as well as any converter is laggy, so players use the Dolphin Emulator to avoid lag. On the other hand I hear reviews from supposedly fairly technical, or experienced players, that the BenQ paired with the Wii2HDMI is almost, if not identical to a CRT in terms of lag.

So I was hoping if anyone could help to clear this up, and tell me which are true and false. Thank you! :D

Most if not all of that info on that subject comes from Fizzy who shared it in a MIOM article and later on on reddit. You can see the two posts here:

I personally bought the Asus VG248QE and have the C&E Component to HDMI converter. Using both with a wii + component cables gives me a very nice picture but after having used it for quite a while now, I feel like it isnt as fast and responsive as using a CRT or dolphin with the monitor.

I built a computer this summer and got a BenQ monitor to go with it. At first I tried using the component to HDMI converter that I already had but it felt off. After looking at frame by frame footage of my Wii signal split between the monitor and a CRT monitor I found there was indeed about a frame of lag. I then purchased a Sewell adapter for the Wii and can confirm that it is exactly like playing on a CRT if your monitor is fast enough (mine is 1ms, don't know what the cutoff is).

However, I don't know of a way that you can test the lag with your set up. I couldn't test it with the Sewell either since it only has HDMI output, but I knew from the feeling that it felt lagless (and I also knew I could detect a 1 frame difference based on my previous set up). 5 ms might be too much when combined with the Sewell, it might not be, I have no clue.
