Do you have to put the control stick/c-stick fully in a direction to DI/ASDI or does just a little bit do it just fine. I looked at some DI guide but none of them said anything about it.

Input strength has big effect on DI/ASDI. For example, the trajectory DI causes rotation of launch angle, and the effect scales proportionally to the square of input strength. So with half input you get quarter of the launch angle rotation of full input at the same direction.

You can experiment with how different input strengths alter di at ikneedata.com/calculator .

I made a write-up about this.

It's a little technical, but it answers your question about DI.

As for ASDI, there is an analog effect with that as well. If you press the c-stick fully in a direction, you'll get 100% of the ASDI movement. If you press it partially in a direction, you can get as low as 80% (iirc, might be 70%) of the ASDI movement. Something similar applies to SDI with the grey stick. You can get as low as 70% SDI, but that practically impossible since a smash input is required. Although, this does mean that, with unlucky input polling, you could randomly get 70% SDI when you were trying to SDI out of Fox's uair and die because Melee is a well designed game meant to reward players for skill.

For clarification, ASDI and SDI scale linearly with input strength unlike TDI.
