Question about wave-dashing

I have been playing smash for a while just ******* around with my friends but recently got to playing it on dolphin and netplay with one of my friends particularly. I am really starting to think Marth will be my main and I am wondering why should I wave-dash into forward smash instead of simply dashing up to someone, holding down and then forward smashing? The speed at which the smash comes out seems the same and I haven't quite mastered wave-dashing on Marth yet. Is there a specific reason why wave dashing would be better? If so please let me know. Thanks.
