Question about the music

IT says that the music is fully orchestrated right? It also seems that they will use a synth machine if they need sounds that an instrument cannot create (explosion, yoshi's voice).
Am i right in saying that so far?

But, in todays music selection (Animal Crossing) I find that the trumpets after the first sixteenth notes (5 of them), sound just fake. It truly sounds like they are being produced by a machine and not by people. Does anyone else get this feeling or is it just me?

The other option is that I am wrong and I just dont know the sound of a truly proffesional trumpet section, and that they actually are played by musicians, not a machine.

List of songs that I think are mixed between a synth and a real orchestra -
Metroid: Boss Battle Music (Ridley Fight) (there are some things in this song that may be synth but for the most part the guitar solo, and the drums are real)
Kid Icarus: The Underworld This song sound mostly real to me. Except for the bass, that is definitely synth.
Go K.K. Rider (see above for my problem with this song)

These are the songs that I feel confident in saying that I think they are 99 percent real musicians playing the music -
Super Smash Bros. Melee Menu (except for the same problems of the synth trumpets)
Star Fox: Space Armada
The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time Medley

Please post if you agree with me or disagree with me.

Am I wrong? Is it all orchestrated?
Am I right?

but a pig in the sun
thats the thing with animal crossing music. AC music has a wierd sythisized feel to it, so I guess it was a way of staying more true to the source material, ne?

Where does it say all of the music is orchestrated?

As for the drums and guitar being real, I'm not entirely sure. With the right software, it is easy to convincingly emulate any sound, especially drums.

I don't think many of the songs will be properly orchestrated - I think they will most likely use samples, albeit extremely convincing ones.

On the subject of music, I want some seriously rocky/metal tracks, for some of the stages - like Big Blue... (maybe just me though )

I'd be really disappointed if it wasn't all orchestrated.

Orchestrated soundtrack = yes.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure the quality is a little cheaper because it's being streamed online. Just wait until the game comes out. I'm sure the music will sound fantastic.

Yeah, it doesn't really sound real and that's disappointing.

I'm still holding out that the final version of the game will be full of full orchestrated tracks... Nothing can beat the Fountain of Dreams track!

Incorrect. Most "synthesis" versions of orchestrations (or any live instrument, for that matter) are nothing more than foley samples. While it is possible to convincingly synthesize drums, it's near impossible to synthesize any other type of live instrument. So as to whether or not the soundtrack will be "fully orchestrated" is debatable. Orchestrated -live-, on the other hand, is something that's rare to come across for any type of soundtrack anymore. Orchestration "synthesizers"/soundfonts are becoming cheaper and more accessible, and orchestrating live is fairly expensive, and is a one-time shot per payment.

I have a feeling that Sakurai is giving us crappy versions because the true music isn't completely finalized yet, and maybe he's trying to save bandwidth.

^^ I agree, the way they sound on the page is not the final version. Sakurai said himself long time ago it was going to be full orchestra, so I really don't worry

I remember when he said it was all live musicians, but I think he was referring to the new theme featured in one of the first video previews. The music that has been put on the site since, I believe uses both live orchestra and synths to get the desired effects.

I agree. After all, the music he gives us are just samples aren't they? I could be wrong.
