hey ya'll. i'm not a falco main, but i screw around with him every once in awhile. sometimes while i'm pillaring, a shine i do will lead to them going in the air, but they will be reset, as in not in the tumble phase. what causes this and what can i do to prevent it? thanks

thats when you stale shine someone as they are in the knockdown animation, solution is to do the least shines possible (aka do dair waveshine as opposed to waveshine waveshine on a fox) and after you get to a percent where dair will knock over, transfer your combo into stringed aerials or combo into fsmash/dsmash off a missed tech or a shine

waveshine combos on fox still have a place though, dont get the impression that they are bad. just keep in mind that after 3 shines or so they will not get hitstun if hit in a knockdown state

I never knew that this is why it happened. I would say you should always use the shine freely without worrying about making the move stale. Instead, punish missed techs with a different move like up-tilt, a smash move, or maybe a dair.
