Question about PM on Wii U

So 3.5 is out now (Yay!) I've played PM lots of times on my Wii U before. But,I'm heard there was an update for the Wii U which makes it that you can't play modded games on the Wii U or else the Wii U won't turn on anymore. So, can I still play PM on my Wii U or will this update block it?
