Question about ms/Ping on Netplay

It depends on your setup and your definition of playable. I would say playable is within a couple ms of a console + CRT setup, most people are fine with more lag than that. Faster Melee reduces lag quite a bit.
At best, a buffer of 8, meaning up to 64ms ping is still acceptable, that would be with a graphics card that doesn't lag (some older ones do!) and a CRT Monitor.
The next best thing would be a low response time + input lag gaming LCD monitor. That's where a buffer of 7 or up to 56ms ping is roughly equal to console + CRT TV.
Most setups will be at around console levels of latency with about a buffer of 4-6, meaning a pingof up to 32-48ms.
