Question about Fox Illusion

Fox illusion is definitely a great move, maybe even op. Comboing into up tilts and up airs at kill percents and it comes out fast with 0 lag. Anyways what I really can't stand is sometimes it launches them to the right and sometimes to the left so I can never quite rely on it. Is it just a 50/50 chance or is there more to it than that?

Hey Brad Lee. I believe it is a matter of where you hit the person. In my experience, if you catch them with the ending part of Fox Illusion, they will be launched upwards and towards you, making it possible for an Uair or Utilt combo.

I believe this is correct. If you hit them in about the first 80-85% of the hitbox, it launches them horizantally and it's basically impossible to combo.

If you hit them at the tail end of it, it launches up and can combo into Utilt at lower percents and Uair reliably at killing percents, as long as you short hop it.

We should really have an entire thread for this move.

Thx guys u helped alot, I've been having consistent results when I hit them with the very end of Illusion. A little disappointing this is how it works tho, trying to hit them with the end of Illusion also means ull be in perfect range for a punish if it's blocked.

True, but the illusion has such low landing lag that it's pretty hard to punish.

I tend to use the illusion as an extra mobility option rather than as a kill option, but it's a good set up if your opponent throws out a laggy aerial or smash at a distance.

I was actually unaware that the illusion set up into SH Uair at kill percents, I think I'm gonna get a lot of mileage out of that.

Against opponents who aren't too eager to edge guard, or retreat across stage to use projectiles, I like to use illusion to stall at the edge and bait out an opportunity to approach. I grab the ledge, drop, quickly jump then illusion back to the ledge, repeating the cycle while I look for my opening. The difference in height between an illusion to the ledge and one that slides along the stage is very subtle, so once you have a handle on the spacing you can surprise your opponent with the on-stage illusion. Of course this strategy has a lot of weak points, good players will be able to react as soon as they see that you didn't snap to the ledge and have a punish ready, but it is still a viable option, and after you've repeated the ledge cycle a few times you can just use a different getup option if you don't think the illusion will land.

The illusion is great for covering ground due to have next to no endlag in the air. Hitting with it isn't all that useful, but its certainly fox/falcos best movement tool. Nobody really expects the random hitbox to come out unless you start spamming it.
