So, I have dolphin running really smooth and all that jazz and I was wondering, what do you need to do to run mods on it? It isn't done the same way as wii, so I'm a bit stumped. I checked around, but I'm not seeing anything. All I have are the files needed to run PM, I'm not sure if I need some extra or what.

First we need to know whether you're using the injected iso method or the virtual sd card method.

If you're using the injected iso method, shown in the guide here on smashboards, then you would have to build the iso with the mods already in the project m folder. That way the files would be injected into the PM iso. You can't mod the injected iso, so you have to modify the folder before you build.

If you're using the virtual sd card method, you have to put the mod files in the project m folder before you inject it into the virtual sd card. That method is independent of the game, it depends on the virtual sd card.

Personally I recommend the injected iso method, although it may take a bit longer if you want to add mods because it takes awhile to build the iso. It's just like modding PM on the wii except you have to inject the projectm folder into the iso/virtual sd card.

So, no matter what I do, I have to make a folder before hand, and I can't change what's inside? Sorta confused on this.

If you can tell me what method you're using to play PM on Dolphin, I can explain on a more step-by-step basis. No matter what you do, you have to rebuild either the iso or the SD card if you want to mod PM because you either inject an iso or an SD card with files, and you cannot change the files in something that's injected; you have to create it again.

I used that method, it should be the first one you were talking about.

Yeah, that would be the injected iso method. If you want to install mods, you're going to have to rebuild the iso using the modified files. So to do this, you would put the modded files into the projectm folder and then run the iso builder again the same way you did before. Then you'll have a new PM iso which will be the modded iso.

Note that mods can cause desyncs if you're playing on Netplay. I'm not sure which do and which don't but be wary of that. If you desync the mod is probably why. Skins shouldn't cause desyncs but different stages definitely will. People will custom music have also reported desyncs.

So, could I just go to my current build, put all my glorious mods in there, then burn the ISO file and put it in there and they'll work?

I'm trying to emphasize that you have to rebuild your PM iso to put in mods, by that I mean repeat the process of creating it again, except putting the mods in the project m homebrew files this time to make it work.

This is the tutorial I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP03UBBcqvw . It's from 2012, but still works just fine. Just make sure to follow every step to the letter, especially if you use Dolphin 4.0.

As for netplay, I haven't actually tried setting it up yet.
That is the injected virtual SD card method I was referring to. I don't recommend it, you can't use that to play on Netplay and I had audio issues using that method plus it's more hassle to start the game.

I only recommend use the virtual SD card method for if you plan on creating your own mods or trying new ones a lot.
