Question about custom moves

I've been using the home menu tactic to rack up some custom moves in classic. I've been told (and noticed myself) that you get more custom moves for the character you're using. Link is my main and I've gotten all my custom moves for him. I wanna get custom moves for the other characters too and here's the problem:

Being a novice player, I'm not sure I could do the high levels of classic with others characters that I would be able to as Link, so naturally I'd prefer to continue being Link as I earn more moves. However, because I am still Link, I will likely be earning custom moves that I don't need.

Does this rule stop applying now that I have all of Link's custom moves or should I switch characters?

The rule still applies, as you can get the same custom move again. IMO you can play any character on 8.0 and get there customs, no need for 9.0 if that's what you do. Not that hard I would say. I main a few characters but can go into classic and get the customs for any character (I hate using Luigi but still got his customs).

Does this apply to Trophy Rush too?

EDIT: Also, could I use a Mii while I have a lot of characters left? Surely they don't get bias, do they?
