Question about Crts

I'm finally going to commit and obtain my very first crt but I'm not really sure if there is anything specific that I should be looking for. Do I just get any crt I can get my hands on or do I need one that specifically has reduced lag?

If your scene is active, it's perfect imo to have a 17-19" tv to tote to smash fests, but have a 24-27" to play on. CRT's cost like $15 dollars (or roughly 1/4 the price of a melee disc) at pawn shops, so having 2 isn't a big deal. But yeah any old crt will be fine.

This is important. I don't know if this is true in other places, but where I live you get $5 off of the venue fee if you bring a setup with you. Small CRTs basically pay themselves off after a few tournaments.

While it's true that any old CRT will work, you'll probably want to be a bit more choosy with your TV. You'll want to make sure that it has at least RCA hookups and if it supports component, even better. S-Video hookups are good too. Some TVs only have the stupid RF hookup and those are pretty universally bad choices.

There are also TVs that won't allow you to use the menu without a remote, these are also generally bad choices. Pay attention to the buttons on the TV's interface and if it's unclear whether you can use the menu or not, see if you can demo it in store.

Depending on how lanky your arms are and what your ability to carry weight is, you can get a pretty big and good TV. I'm about 6 feet tall and I can carry a 27" TV as long as the mold is designed correctly and it isn't too heavy for me, like more than 80-85 pounds. Ideally you should get a TV that's basically as large as you can carry comfortably. If you're taking it to venues, you might have to travel over significant distances with that TV, so you'll be earning that venue fee. Keep that in mind when choosing.

Mainly any CRT TV is fine as long it has no lag on it. It is really up to you on what type of CRT you want.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I ended up getting a relatively small Sharp crt that works very well at a thrift store for $10, which I found to be a sweet deal. No remote for it, but it gets the job done.
