If you read the product description, it does mention Smash Wii U, so yes.

They aren't actual GameCube controllers, the thing you put in the adapter is replaced with what the nunchuck has to put in a Wiimote, so you have to sync a Wiimote then plug it into the wiimote to play.

That I can't answer, since I don't have any idea, and I tend to look for products that are licensed by Nintendo.

Pick the controller you are good at, if you find your self good at gamepad, then stay on gamepad. If your not, try other controllers that suits you.

but it isn't a gamecube controller, it's not tournament legal. You have to plug it into a wiimote for it to work
