1) No one knows but it will most likely go by Mii name.

You should be able to just pick a name. Your friend code distinguishes you, so you can have the same name as someone else. Nintendo has stated that they will allow everyone to be named Mario if they want to be.

And the name.. yeah you can probably be named whatever you want and change it whenever. But you have a Wii code to be distinguished by.

i seriously hate the friednd code thing cuz i think if i add my friends wii number to my wii they should get a message saying... <console nickname> wants to be your friend and not you typing in 14144141-15151-515-63-158707 then your friend having to put in 52622519707-70-07-070707

The more characters you have the smaller the font is. And if you actually look at the other screenshot;

Looks like the box you enter the name is has plenty of room for more characters. Why would they only allow you to make a 4 character name? That would just be dumb.

That isn't Online name selection.

If the stories are true, and that friend codes are connected via Mii's, then you pick a Mii to be you for online play, like Strikers.
