Every time you see him, he always has a pokeball in his right hand. Not even on Pokemon battle Revolution does the trainer have out a pokeball.

because Idaknow he wants to? Maybe it's so he can call his pokemon back faster because he's got to be the very best as never there was before. Oh and smash isn't turn based so he can't just poke around like a slowpoke.
