Purchasing a new GC controller

So I just found out that my current GC controller (black) is broken. When using the Analog stick to the bottom sides the character runs. (makes it annoying for wavedashing)

I'm looking to buy a new controller now and I main fox.

I noticed everyone is using the Platinum GC controller when playing fox, hax, mango etc...

Is there a serious difference between that and other controllers?

Should I pick up a platinum one from ebay for like $22

or should I buy a new White controller?

The part of a controller that’s responsible for how the control stick feels like is the stick box. There are three different stick box types (see technical knowledge compilation linked in my sig); they are mostly independent of controller color. In my experience, platinum controllers have type 3 stick boxes in 60% of cases and type 2 in 40%. Japanese white controllers always have type 3 stick boxes.

The stick box isn't my problem it's just that i think mine is broke.

I was wondering why everyone uses the platinum ones and I know the spring mechanic is different for L and R triggers in the white.

Idk what one I should buy, white or platinum.

Cleaning it is easy. He does say that the stick is in good condition and has 100% positive feedback, so I’d trust him.
