Pulled out a smash ball with all items off

All items were turned off. I was playing a level 9 King DeDeDe cpu with Ike on Final Destination. He was chucking Waddle Dees at me, and he pulled out a Smash Ball. He got it, but I killed him before he could use it. The CPU was randomed but the stage was selected.

I realize that this is a outrageous claim to which I have no video evidence. If you do not believe me, please say so nicely.

Has this happened to anyone else?

EDIT: Sorry, I just saw another thread with exactly the same thing.
