Hello, I recently got a couple GC controllers from a guy on Craigslist. One black one platinum/silver. I would like to know if these are indeed fake, and if they are, provide some information that you can look for when buying.

What first struck me as strange was the condition of the platinum controller, It looked like it hadn't been used once, but was not packaged and the cable had an elastic band on it (gave me that flea market vibe). When I opened the controller things got really strange.

1. The triggers L/R - Not like normal triggers. Screwless. http://imgur.com/gallery/w80Cq

2. The cable - About 1 inch shorter than confirmed real GCC

3. The Shell - has all official markings when compared to real GCC (can't find any differences)

4. Hardware - The hardware looks legit but, if you try to use this hardware in a shell that has official triggers, it will not fit.

EDIT: here is a shot of the hardware http://imgur.com/YwhqwUN (I removed the rumble pack fyi)

I collect GCN controllers and I've got controllers from America, Europe, and Japan. NONE of them have those weird screwless trigger braces (some lack the metal bars on the trigger pieces, but never screwless). I'd definitely be wary. What's curious, though, is the markings on the controller; I've seen aftermarket controllers but I've not heard of straight up counterfeiting.

Any way you could compare how the plastic feels on both controller shells? Official controller plastic feels noticeably sturdier and "heavier" than most modern aftermarket controllers.

on comparison the only difference is that "fake" shell doesn't fit together as well, creating a small gap in the plastic near the cable. the only other thing i could find was these numbers inside the shells. unfortunately havent been able to find any info online. http://imgur.com/30tvDjZ

I think what might be most important is the performance. How does it stack up against an actual GC controller? Do all the buttons work as they should, are they as sturdy, etc?
However, just the fact someone went lenghts to make this counterfeit kinda worries me.

I think it's legit. I have seen a few controllers with the screw-less plates, I believe those were the controllers that were produced up until 2012 in the US. There are so many different parts across all the different controllers you wouldn't believe. On the Panasonic controller, the plastic that hold the rumble pack is purple, and the trigger plates are grey.

The rubbers are the same and the third party sticks are usually really bad. I have talked to someone who I noticed had one of those, he told me he had this controller since forever. I guess they wanted to save some money on the extra plastic lol.

As for the controller not closing, it might be a component that you placed incorrectly, or sometimes the wire is a bit too long for its place inside the controller. Try pushing it down into the controller along with the tie wrap.

Edit: You may want to ask Kadano.
