Within Smash 3DS, go into the replay vault. If it's your first time, you'll be prompted with a small message detailing what this replay mode is. Anyway, if I remember correctly, it said "Replays saved might not play correctly in the future" or something of the sort.

In any case, if you guys are familiar with how replays work, you understand that it's actually just reenacting your fight and not an actual "replay" in the traditional sense.

Now, I'll be using Brawl+ as an example. Brawl+ was a mod prior to Project M's announcement, the objective was to create a balanced version of Brawl with improved mechanics and the like–it was pretty solid. Anyway, trying to watch a replay from an older version of Brawl+ on the final build triggers an interest issue...

The replay basically doesn't work as intended, often you would watch your character fight nothing and self destruct.

To my knowledge, the reason for this was due to balance updates and tweaks amongst the characters/roster. I haven't tried this with Project M, but I assume the same issue arises when trying to watch older replays on the newer versions.

Evidently, this disclaimer in Sm4sh leads me to believe that future updates may directly effect the mechanics/characters leading to dysfunctional replays.

It's been bugging me since I've read the disclaimer, and even if they never update the games mechanics/characters, the possibility is still there!

TL;DR: The replay mode disclaimer signifies potential updates that may directly impact game mechanics/balance/characters.

Thoughts?

(lock if old/previously discussed)

Good cus roll needs a nerf, shulks Monado swap animation shouldn't cancel your jump momentum, Ganon should get a real move set.

But when you save a replay, it says that it can be corrupted after a update for the game, so we can expect balance patches!

This is likely just in case you recorded something like Yoshi's many glitches and tried to replay them in future. I doubt they'll be making many balance changes as it'll gut the meta.

I don't expect them to make changes in accordance to specific characters–outside of their glitches/bugs–but it's a disclaimer none the less. I was thinking more in line with certain mechanics like...more input lag between air dodges?

There's speculation about how Conquest mode is really a test to see how well the balance/mechanics between characters are.

Either way, it's not particularly solid proof as to what to expect or not...but I'm curious to see if Nintendo is actively listening to the community. They have been making bigger strides towards the competitive scene, imo; they don't even have a 1vs1 For Fun option for those who seek it.

But the disclaimer could also just be for potential bugs/glitches in characters so there's that.
