An idea that I and a few others have mentioned in regards to Smash's ranking system is Tekken's ranking system. In Tekken's system, the way ranking works is more like skill "classes" and they are assigned to each character. In other words, these titles tell others your skill level with a particular character. Depending on your quality of playing, you may be promoted or demoted in title. The beauty of this system is that skill levels are more defined than the arguably ambiguous numbers a traditional ranking system.

These titles varied, with things like Beginner > 9th-1st Kyu > Disciple > Mentor > Master > etc.

So just for fun, what titles would you like to see? Try to give them a Smash flavor for extra fun.

Highest skill level is Sakurai, and can only be accessed by defeating yourself in a competitve match controlling both characters.

No, I really can't think of any unique titles that would fit Smash Bros, but I do like the idea of character-specific rankings.

It'd be cool if each character had their own titles. For example, Bowser could start at Goomba and max at King Koopa, Fire Emblem characters could use class names (Soldier, Troubadour, Lord), etc.

<Dr.> Mario

<Star> Fox

<You can't read this fast> Sonic (the name would move as he moves)

<Whirldwin... Flame Sw... Hard Kn... Leaf... Meta....> Stop changing colors Megaman, otherwise I won't be able to get your name right!

I think five grades are enough:

Beginner
Amateur
Smasher (at this point the SSB symbol is complete)
Destroyer
Devastator

Nice idea, but why not just use some of the titles we have here on the Smashboards?
I totally concur with you, the titles of Smashboards are quite genuine and creative. I can hardly imagine other title ranking better than the titles we have here.

I do like the character-exclusive titles, although I also believe that Smash should never have a ranking system. Perhaps you should be allowed to choose from the titles you have earned for each character. That way you can sort of trick people and the title won't be a reliable indicator of your skill level.

It'd be a dream come true if we got a ranking system like Tekken Tag 2, that could match players of similar levels.
