Emphasis on may.

I installed it about a year ago and my copy of Brawl worked just fine prior, but over time it's been having disc read errors when loading certain things. Certain modes, characters, even costumes. It started happening more and more frequently until now my Wii can't even recognize the disc. I don't play it any more in PM than I did in Brawl so I don't think it's because I was using it more often.

I definitely haven't counted out the possibility that it's a coincidence, and my copy breaking down is from years of use and doesn't have anything to do with PM.

Anybody know anything about this?

It may be that your Wii has difficulty reading dual-layer discs. Do you have any of these games? If so, do any of these work?

Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid: Other M
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Samurai Warriors 3
Raving Rabbids Collection
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Story
Samurai Warriors 3 Z

Project M cannot damage your disc in any way. It's most likely due to your disc drive failing from wear and tear.

I have none of those games.

And I know PM breaking my disc seems silly but the problems started when I got it so I just can't shake the feeling that it's related.

Just as likely to do with your sock color =p

The wii disc drive is shoddy at best, will definitely be the wii getting old.
It starts with having trouble reading dual layer discs, then it goes onto all discs sounding like its chewing them to read.

PM cant affect your disc, if anything, it uses the disc less than brawl =p

You could look into USB loading once your drive dies.
