Project M Installation Help

I have been running Project M fine from a disk/homebrew in the past, but recently lost my brawl disk. I followed a tutorial to build a project M ISO and everything loads fine from USB, until I get to the character select screen. It is just the brawl character select screen. And after selecting a character,selecting any stage immediately causes the game to freeze and make an awful buzzing noise. Does anyone know how to fix it?
