I have downloaded Project M 3.5 Homebrew Wifi option. I unzipped the contents put it in my USB drive on the root. I updated it to V1.11 on the main menu.

Now I press Play and it brings me to a black screen, then 5 seconds later to the Wii menu. What gives?

Did you mean SD card? Because you can't put Project M's files on a USB stick, they have to go on an SD card.
Really? Why is that? Also when I do update what does (The Project M info.xml file was not found. Do you have an unmodified installation of project M 3.0?) .

I wanted it on a USB because all my other homebrew apps are there, and I don't want to overwrite anything.

The file patch code Project M uses is only capable of using files located on an SD card. There's no file patch code for reading files from a USB drive (nor is such a thing even possible, as I understand it). You'll have to use an SD card for PM instead.
The error message you're getting is almost certainly related to this (it's looking for that file on an SD card, and not finding it, so it throws an error).

Alright Thanks.

EDIT: Just tried on another SD card. No dice. Does the same thing (brings me to a black screen and then Wii menu). Any other tips?

Also, I tried it on another Fat32 SD card. Didn't Work. I tried downloading gecko OS. That didnt work as well. I tried using different hook types (thats didnt work as well). In gecko, it always said :"Error, too many codes".

I'm reading else where that people say it could be a disc problem. Though I can rule that out because my brawl disc plays 100% everytime.

"Too many codes" means you're missing the gameconfig.txt file. Create a new text file in the SD card root, and name it "gameconfig.txt", then put the following in it:
Code:
RSB?01:
codeliststart = 80570000
codelistend = 80580000
hooktype = 7
poke(800042B8, 60000000)
pokeifequal(803E9930, 4BFECA1D, 803E9930, 60000000)
pokeifequal(803E99A8, 4BFECA1D, 803E99A8, 60000000)
pokeifequal(803E9D5C, 4BFECA1D, 803E9D5C, 60000000)

Thanks! Alright so I was about to write and say I found that solution online earlier, tried it and it didn't work for me.

Then it clicked. I need to change the txt file to EXACTLY "gameconfig.txt" on the root of the SD. Now I was able to go to the main menu and play a brawl match.

Thanks
