So I just recently go smash for wii u, trying to get back into the old smash scene with my buddies but I have run into some trouble and I was wondering if anyone else has faced this issue.

I have a GC controller and a wii u adapter. Everything seems to work fine, the sticks work fine on the menu screen etc. however the second you get into an actual battle the gc controller sticks stop working.

I find it so strange since they work fine on the menu screens but not in the actual battles. Anyone ever have this problem and find a way to fix it.

One of my GC controllers has that exact problem.

Unfortunately you came here to find out how to fix it and I have no clue.

Unfortunately I have no other controllers to work with so I guess my next question I have to the people who have had this problem is, do you think it is the GC controller or the wii u port that is the problem?

For both of you it could be a frayed wire. Something which cannot really be fixed unless you want to open it up and put yourself through a hassle. Sorry.

If we have the same problem (can't say for sure if we do, as I don't even know what is causing this) then it is the controller not the adapter.

If you have any access to another adapter try it there to rule that out. (May be a smash community in your area that would let you test it).

I am already planning to open up my others to do some work... so if you have any advice on how to fix this one I would like to hear it.

Something like this would not surprise me considering how old the controller is, it is from my original game cube.

Regardless I appreciate all the help everyone has pitched on. I will try another controller and see if that fixes the problem.

I have experience fixing specific electrical devices. It's probably similar. I imagine you'll have to take off the cover and at the top of the circuit card the color wires are connected. Strip the insulation of the wires to find the break in the wires. If it's near the circuit card or near the end of the cable length you can cut off the length that includes where the break is and reattach it as it was. If the break is towards the middle you'll want to cut out the part that includes the break and re-solder the color wires back together. I have done this for home phones before.
Hey, there are a few guides for this online too. If you don't have a soldering tool you can try wrapping the color wires around the other wires of the same color. May or may not work well that way.
