Problems Launching Project M 3.6b

So I've had this problem since 3.0.2 where I would hit "Play" on the launcher and the Wii would just go back to the main menu instead of launching Project M. However, sometimes it does indeed launch PM and I am able to play. There is about a 1/3 chance that PM will launch. I suspect this is because my Brawl disc or Wii is inconsistent. To get rid of this problem in the past, I used an ISO builder to build a PM ISO and I would just use that. However, with 3.6b, I can't seem to get the ISO builder to work so I've resorted to using the PM launcher again. I know many people have had this problem and the general solution is to use Gecko OS (since it lets you try to launch PM multiple times) to launch PM and I have tried this. I turned SD Cheats to "YES" and set the Hooktype to "AXNextFrame" but every time I launch the game, it loads up brawl instead of PM. But, the character select screen is changed a bit. It has the layout of Project M, with the Brawl art, and Roy is replaced by Wario. When putting my cursor over Roy/Wario, the game freezes.

I'm using the homebrew version of PM and Gecko. I have also tried using VBI as the Hooktype.
