Problem with game disk

Today I bought a used copy of Soul Calibur 2 for the Gamecube at my local GameStop, but every time I play it on my Wii, it keeps saying "The game disk could not be read" whenever I go to any Character Select screen. (Arcade Mode, Practice, Weapon Master, etc.)

I have yet to try it on my Gamecube for 2 reasons:
1. It is a hassle to take it out of my closet, unplug my Wii, then plug in my Gamecube, just to undo all those steps.
2. It's not worth it if I HAVE to play the game on my Gamecube JUST because the Wii gives me errors. I already have one game that I can only play on my Gamecube (Battle Stadium D.O.N.), but it has an excuse; it's an import that requires the Action Replay.

Can anyone tell me the problem?

It has the usual "wear-and-tear" that all used game disks get eventually, but I noticed it has a couple of hard to see scratches towards the center of the back of the disk.

Did you put the disk right side in? Happens to me on a few occasions

He couldn't get to any screens with a backwards disc, Roach, haha.

It's probably pretty badly scratched, get it buffed if it's not terrible.

Thanks for the advice, Chacotaco. (Mmm...Choco Tacos are delicious....)

I'll see if putting it in my Gamecube helps. Either way, if I can't get it to work on my Wii, I'm getting a refund.

Is the art on the top of the disk ripped? If so the laser is reading right through the disk and you won't be able to play the game.

Nope. Top is fine.
EDIT: Tried the Gamecube. Same problem. I'm going to get the refund if I can't get it buffed within 6 days.

Well, even when buffed, it still didn't work, so I took it back.
I'm getting a new copy from a different store tomorrow.

Someone please lock this, as I don't know how to myself.

Hehe, my bad. Gotta stop skimming so much. I thought the disc couldn't be read at teh screen where you can choose to play, not the character screen woops :p

Anyways, just return the disc with a receipt and they'll give you another one.

Already took it back. I got a refund, and they did not have another copy, but another game store that is walking distance will have a copy tomorrow.
